Playcanvas Proposes SOG v3 for Gaussian Splatting: Tighter Packing, 4-Band SH, Alpha>1 Gap Compensation
willeastcott · x · 2026-10-28
The Playcanvas team shares its SOG v3 proposal for the gaussian splatting format. Key changes: tighter data packing, up to 4 bands of spherical harmonics, per-gaussian custom/blind data, a glTF-style meta.json extras field, and alpha > 1 support that compensates after repeated decimation rounds to prevent gaps between gaussians — side-by-side renders show v2 leaving visible holes against a bright red background while v3 fills them in. Feedback from the community is open.
