SEO Experts: Google AI Overviews Make Simple Queries Harder Than Before
lilyraynyc · x · 2026-10-28
SEO expert Lily Ray, quoting Glen Gabe, argues Google AI Overviews are making many queries more confusing: years ago Google gave exact answers at the top of the SERP — phone numbers, definitions, featured snippets. Gabe's example: searching for Google's own documentation returned an AIO instead of the right link, and adding 'documentation' surfaced news about 'deceptive authorship' instead. They argue Google should know when AIOs aren't needed and just link directly, though unique queries with little engagement data make that hard.
