WSJ tech columnist Joanna Stern dug through her archives and found she has spent much of her career asking Apple to put a touchscreen on the Mac — with answers shifting from "nope" to evasive laughter. In October 2021, Apple hardware engineering SVP John Ternus told her: "We make the world's best touch computer on an iPad... And the Mac is totally optimized for indirect input. We haven't really felt a reason to change that." The resurfaced quote now reads as a striking contrast to Apple's shifting stance.
