Machenta exits stealth with $40M seed: robot model learns tasks from one demo, zero real-world data

Ed Johns announces Machenta, out of stealth with a $40M seed round co-led by Creandum and USV, building "Instant Robot Learning." Their robot foundation model learns tasks instantly from a single demonstration with no further training, and was trained entirely in simulation without a single pixel of real-world data. He describes teaching robots as feeling like "physical vibe coding." Co-lead investor Torsten Reil adds that large-scale data collection is a dead end for robotics and LLM training was the wrong reference — a direct challenge to the data-scaling mainstream.
