131 Images Hand-Tested: MOSS-Image Text Rendering Fails on Short Prompts, Fix Guide + Free Layout Editor
Downtown-Staff-9720 · reddit · 2026-10-28
A hands-on test of MOSS-Image (OpenMOSS open weights) across 8 real-world layouts and 131 images found short prompts garbled 4 of 6 text scenes, while automatic prompt expansion fixed readability but can add unwanted text. Practical rules: quote every required string exactly, skip type specs, give narrow boxes room, remove text descriptions when deleting text, and beware fixed seeds preserving layout but not pixels. Even dedicated edit models misfired (changing $38 to $88 in 3 of 8 runs). The author also released a free browser-based layout editor that compiles box drafts into prompts identical to the official compileprompt.py.
