UChicago CS brings four full papers on tangible interfaces to UIST 2026, from magnetic particles to haptic rings
plopesresearch · x · 2026-10-28
UChicago CS outlines its UIST 2026 lineup (Nov 2-5, Detroit): four full papers (two with live demos), two extra demos, a poster, and two workshops, spanning interfaces beyond the screen.
- Granular I/O (paper + demo): millimeter-scale magnetic particle clusters shaped by hand gestures form malleable actuated TUIs that work as both input and output, with a design space, particle fabrication, two actuation platforms, and authoring software
- Electrotactile Improves Thermal Referral (paper + demo): how electrotactile stimulation enhances thermal perception illusions
- Also: an eyes-free ring interface that talks back through your fingertip, EMS muscle-based control, subtle electrotactile in VR, and text/code editing interfaces
The collection tracks interfaces moving into hands, skin, muscles, and physical surroundings.
