PM hires down 18% while job postings up 77%, 2026 hiring report finds

Aakash Gupta partnered with Live Data Technologies (126M profiles) and Levels.fyi to build a 2026 PM hiring and compensation report based on actual hires, not job postings.
- 4 of the 10 companies hiring the most PMs globally are banks or payment networks: Amazon led with 691 external PM hires in the 12 months to April 2026, Google had 507, then Capital One; JPMorgan Chase and Mastercard both hired more PMs than Meta, and Visa sits just behind Walmart.
- Since 2023, PM job postings are up 77%, but actual hires are down 18% — postings and hires tell completely different stories.
- The report cross-references Levels.fyi pay data with a 276-response reader salary survey.
Takeaway: focusing only on big tech misses the large banking/payments segment, and the market is far weaker than posting data suggests.
