The legendary fake Go generics: Unicode Canadian Syllabics as angle brackets
rickasaurus · x · 2026-10-28
In the classic HN thread on parallelizing Enjarify in Go and Rust, author Uncaffeinated explains that ImmutableTreeList<ElementT> wasn't Go generics — it was a template file with search-and-replace generating three monomorphized Go files. The "angle brackets" were actually characters from the Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics Unicode block, valid in Go identifiers. rickasaurus quips he'll never top inventing fake Go generics via extended Unicode.
