Microsoft Agensh board: a coding agent's "tests passed" is just a message
shoumikgoswami · reddit · 2026-10-28
Microsoft's Agensh repo provides a shared notes board for coding agents, and the poster highlights a crucial blind spot: it stores reported verification but never runs the checks itself — a big deal when one agent decides whether to trust another's progress.
Mechanics from the README:
- Note types: FACT, OBSERVED, FAIL, CLAIM, PATCHSUMMARY
- Most notes capped at 100 chars, patch summaries at 300; fuller detail fetched separately
- Task claims expire from live reads after 1 hour by default, so abandoned claims don't linger
- A matching FAIL invalidates the author's latest candidate patch
- A new patch summary replaces the author's earlier one for the same work label
None of this makes a reported result true — the service checks submitted text, not whether the verification command actually succeeded. Coordinating work and verifying work are distinct: before treating a patch as ready, the workflow still needs to verify results itself.
