Nobel laureate David Gross chairs working group to vet OpenAI's quantum Yang-Mills existence result

The Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) has formed a "Yang-Mills Working Group" chaired by Nobel laureate and permanent member David Gross — a scientific collaboration to interpret an AI result related to the existence of quantum chromodynamics and completions of the Standard Model, including a subproblem proving the existence of Quantum Yang-Mills theory, one of the Clay Millennium Prize problems.
danintheory shared the announcement, saying he's excited for this group to "shepherd OpenAI's work" on these questions — another signal that frontier AI models are producing results serious enough in fundamental mathematics that top theoretical physicists are formally organizing to verify them.
