Epoch AI chart shows US share of global compute capacity climbing to ~72%
SamuelAlbanie · x · 2026-10-28
DeepMind research scientist Samuel Albanie shared what he calls "maybe the most important graph in the world": an Epoch AI stacked chart of countries' share of global compute capacity (H100e), based on cumulative chip arrivals since 2022 from customs records, spanning 2023 Q3 to 2026 Q2.
The trend: the US share climbs from 57% to 72%, China's share shrinks from 16% to single digits, and the EU edges up, with Malaysia, Japan and India holding small slices. The metric tracks chips entering their final destination country, i.e. geographic concentration of AI compute.
