msgblast adds "Build a New Feature": generated prompts let coding agents fork, modify and PR open-source apps
msg · x · 2026-10-28
The msgblast developer (Mac app for comparing multiple AI agents side-by-side) responds to a real gap: open source needs a distribution model where users modify software via coding agents while changes still flow back upstream. Their answer is a Help-menu "Build a New Feature" option that generates a ready-to-paste prompt containing the installed version, repo URL, fork-vs-ZIP guidance, and instructions for the agent to read AGENTS.md/CONTRIBUTING.md and build docs, start from upstream main, preserve existing edits, and record the base SHA — so users can build their own feature with Claude Code or Codex CLI and share a PR.
