Purdue's IDEAS Lab demos GPS-free drone that tracks runners through dense forests on-chip
DavidSKrueger · x · 2026-10-28
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks moving targets through dense forests with no GPS or cloud network. 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI run entirely on-chip, letting it weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time. Big implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.
