European 'sovereign AI' startup Giotto bans benchmarking in its ToS, drawing flak

Giotto, a European "sovereign AI" startup pitching data control and self-hosted deployment, has ToS terms forbidding users from reverse-engineering the model or benchmarking it for publication without prior written consent.
AI researcher Dorialexander questioned the motive, and AI2's teortaxesTex called it "impressive chutzpah" — a company marketing itself as "the smartest sovereign AI" while contractually preventing anyone from verifying how smart it actually is. Benchmark bans are common among closed-model vendors, but the contrast is especially glaring for a product whose selling point is transparency and user control.
