Top econometricians publish paper on how their LLMs wrote it

Harvard's Isaiah Andrews and MIT's Anna Mikusheva released an arXiv note, AI in Econometric Theory: An Example, described as "a story and a paper." The paper studies admissibility of two-stage least squares with weak instruments — a topic they've worked on since 2019 — while the story recounts how they (or rather, their LLMs) wrote it and what that may mean for econometrics. A landmark example of top theorists formally documenting LLM-assisted research.
