Ghostty 1.4.0 (released Oct 27, 2026) is a major release after 7 months of work: 172 contributors, 2,889 commits.
- Large performance and memory improvements across all platforms.
- 100% complete Kitty graphics implementation including animation and relative placements — the first non-Kitty terminal to do so.
- Improved SSH integration plus hundreds of other fixes.
- Security fixes include: paste protection not treating carriage returns as line endings, allowing command execution without confirmation (GHSA-4hwh-wx3w-3fqg); malicious Kitty graphics commands able to crash/hang the terminal or read/delete files outside temp dirs (GHSA-mhff-mv4q-fp63); and malicious terminal output crashing all windows via tmux control mode without tmux installed (GHSA-hcr9-7hcr-mjm8).
