Developer Andy Madrick reveals that Grok's new loading indicator is built on a 27-point cube/sphere, iterated in a dev server called the "orbital lab" where nearly everything could be tweaked. The animations looked poor on the web but shine on 3x retina displays, and have now shipped to production.
