OpenAI proposes all-dimensions Kakeya proof and ETH refutation; expert calls it Nobel-level

Valerio Capraro reacts to OpenAI's latest math releases, calling them "honestly shocking":
- Three months after Hong Wang won the Fields Medal for the 3D Kakeya conjecture, OpenAI released a proposed proof in all dimensions — the paper proves Sogge's local smoothing conjecture for the Euclidean wave equation in every dimension ≥2, deriving the Bochner–Riesz conjecture and the Kakeya and Nikodym maximal conjectures.
- OpenAI also announced a proposed existence proof for quantum chromodynamics and a proposed refutation of the Exponential Time Hypothesis — experts say the latter two would be Nobel- and Turing-award-level if confirmed.
Capraro's take: problem-solving is increasingly automated, so humans shift to problem-setting — deciding which problems matter. Strong critical thinkers get supercharged; others risk surrendering to AI. He worries most about children, arguing epistemic literacy (distinguishing information from knowledge) is the key skill to teach.
