Largest Proof in Human History Now Machine-Verified: Axiom Formalizes 15,000-Page CFSG in Lean
IgorCarron · x · 2026-10-28
Axiom announced a complete Lean auto-formalization of the Classification of Finite Simple Groups—dubbed the "periodic table of symmetry"—making the longest proof in human history computer-verified. The proof spans roughly 15,000 pages and was built by more than 100 mathematicians across generations, far beyond what any single person could read and understand.
The reposter BlancheMinerva noted that formal verification of proofs too long for one person to grasp is a big deal, and disclosed that Axiom had emailed asking her to promote it—something she normally refuses, but this was content she would have shared anyway.
