Open-source 1.3B model OXR-1.0 tops 3 doc-parsing benchmarks and is the fastest, using an RSI loop with no human labels

SoMark open-sourced OXR-1.0, a 1.3B-parameter document parsing model that turns PDFs and page images into Markdown or JSON.
Results
- Ranks first on olmOCR-Bench (87.84), OmniDocBench and DocParsingBench while being the fastest of 21 models tested: 558 tok/s decoding, 101 seconds for 100 pages on a single RTX PRO 6000 — 3.05x GLM-OCR's throughput and 33.5% faster than runner-up OvisOCR2
- Accuracy lead is thin (0.24 pts on olmOCR-Bench) but it's 64x faster than olmOCR-Bench runner-up Infinity-Parser2-Pro
- Weights on Hugging Face; runs on a single 24GB GPU, plus a free no-key API
Architecture
- Layout detection is split out: a small layout model draws boxes, the 1.3B OXR reads each box and sets reading order, so teams can swap in their own layout model
- 13 element types with page coordinates: tables as HTML/Markdown, formulas and chemical equations as LaTeX, molecules as SMILES, headers/footers filtered by default
Recursive self-improvement (RSI) loop
- OXR parses each page multiple times; a general VLM marks results correct/wrong/uncertain, writes failure reasons, clusters them, and generates new labeled pages per weakness cluster — no human labeling, claimed a first in document parsing
- Limitation: it can only fix errors the VLM can spot
