workstream-mcp: open-source MCP server with atomic Postgres claims for multi-agent coordination
Plane-Preference6245 · reddit · 2026-10-27
The author open-sourced workstream-mcp, an MCP server for coordinating multiple agents (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, or humans) on a shared plan, exposing 36 tools for plans, tasks, claims, attempts, reviews and verdicts backed by Postgres.
Key design points:
- Atomic claims via Postgres SKIP LOCKED that expire when an agent stops refreshing — no more clashing edits or dead sessions leaving tasks "in progress" forever
- Illegal state transitions return an error with allowednext so models self-correct
- Auth is a token-in-path URL: one-line setup in Claude Code or Cursor; stdio transport also available
- GitHub Projects/Slack writes go through an outbox so third-party outages never slow tool calls
- The web dashboard calls the same tools as agents, so states can't diverge
- Every tool declares MCP annotations; the five destructive tools are marked and prompt before running
MIT-licensed with a one-command Docker demo.
