HKU's HKUDS lab open-sourced DeepTutor, a personalized AI tutor that has earned 45k GitHub stars.
- Instead of a one-question-one-answer chatbot, you feed it textbooks, lecture notes and slides; it tutors, generates quizzes, runs deep research and creates visual explanations around your own materials in a single workspace
- Cross-session memory is split into three layers (raw logs, per-scene takeaways, learner profile), all inspectable and editable, so progress and mistakes carry over
- Works with Bilibili/YouTube links and lets you ask about the exact second you didn't understand
- Install is three commands, and the repo ships a SKILL.md so Claude Code or Codex can set it up for you
