Suspicious fake OpenAI deactivation warning email circulates, phishing campaign feared
natesiggard · x · 2026-10-27
A user shared an email titled "OpenAI ChatGPT - Usage Policy Violation & Deactivation Warning" claiming their GPT violated policies on "Professional Advice" and urging them to click "Initiate appeal". The poster suspects a phishing campaign targeting OpenAI users — either OpenAI's violation classifier is badly broken or someone is impersonating OpenAI to attack its users. The email looks highly convincing; treat such deactivation warnings and their appeal links with caution.
