Amazon guts its AGI division, sunsets Nova foundation models and Q IDE
srchvrs · x · 2026-10-27
Per Futurism citing Bloomberg, Amazon is gutting its in-house AI labs and reorganizing AI teams around 'highest priority' goals after its power-hungry LLMs underperformed. Most Nova models—text, video, and image generation—have been placed in a 'keep the lights on' state with bare-minimum resources.
Researcher srchvrs adds that the Q IDE (autocomplete and chat in IDE) is being shut down and code-generation model training abandoned. Compute and staff are being redirected to a single frontier-model effort led by Pieter Abbeel, who joined when Amazon acquired Covariant in 2024.
