PE firms' AI problem: more pull requests than ever, but nothing ships
_AustinCalvert_ · x · 2026-10-27
mardehaym reports that every PE call this quarter ends at the same AI problem: nothing is getting shipped. Operating partners, CFOs, and holdco AI leads describe funds embedding "special ops" engineers in portcos, CFOs seeing more pull requests than ever with no codebase improvement, holdcos relearning the same lesson at each acquisition, lone technologists self-appointing as "AI strategy," and board members whose whole brief is choosing which AI firms to trust.
His take: nobody is doing anything wrong — AI simply moved faster than their operating models. What helps is one shipped, measured workflow replicated company to company.
