Imperial College spinout Machenta exits stealth with $40M seed for one-demo robot learning

Ed Johns' team at Imperial College launched Machenta, out of stealth with a $40M seed round co-led by Creandum and USV.
Its new robot foundation model learns tasks instantly from a single demonstration with no further training — prompting a robot with a demo the way you prompt ChatGPT with text, what the team calls "physical vibe coding". The model is trained entirely in simulation, with zero real-world data, betting on learning-how-to-learn rather than scaling real-world data collection, so it's bounded by compute rather than data.
