758-startup MRR analysis: median SaaS revenue declining ~11% a year
marclou · x · 2026-10-27
marclou analyzed 758 startups with over $1,000 MRR on TrustMRR, covering $41.63M in revenue over the last 4 months, to answer "Is SaaS dead?":
- Slow aggregate decline: median monthly growth stayed negative (June -2.3%, July -0.4%, August -0.3%, September -0.9%), compounding to roughly -11% per year, or 45% degrowth over 5 years.
- B2B holds up better than B2C: median growth was 0% for 255 B2B businesses vs -6.2% for 257 B2C ones.
- Momentum persists: among businesses that grew ≥5% from June to July, 54% kept growing MRR; among those that fell ≥5%, only 35% grew afterward.
Takeaway: SaaS isn't dead, but the median indie SaaS is slowly bleeding out; B2B and existing momentum are the best predictors.
