ETH humanoid uses head-mounted LiDAR for onboard terrain mapping in 30ms
ChongZzZhang · x · 2026-10-27
Responding to doubts about open-loop deployment, a researcher explains the humanoid's terrain perception relies on a head-mounted Livox MID-360 LiDAR. The method, from ETH's 'Humanoid Mobility via Attention-based Contacts', repurposes attention-based neural map encoding running onboard a Jetson Orin NX CPU — processing 20k-point scans at 10 Hz with 3cm grid resolution in under 30 ms, alongside odometry and policy.
