A 'How it started vs how it's going' comparison pairs Elon Musk's October 2024 pledge that xAI 'has been and will open source its models, including weights' with an @unbenchmark chart of open-weights share by AI lab: DeepSeek 100%, Moonshot AI 90%, ZAi 71%, Alibaba 66%, NVIDIA 62%, Mistral 47%, OpenAI 6%, Google 4%, Meta 3% — and xAI and Anthropic at 0%. Chinese labs clearly lead on openness while top US labs largely keep weights closed.
