Prediction: AI labs must find new high-value workloads to justify infra spend
yi111 · reddit · 2026-10-27
A Reddit post predicts that within six months, AI labs will face mounting pressure to explain which new workloads justify continued infrastructure expansion. Email drafts and meeting summaries have a low payment ceiling; the stronger cases are hard software problems, valuable research, and reliable operational agents — each demanding different model priorities (deep reasoning and verification vs. reliable tool use and low latency vs. rock-bottom cost per interaction). Commercial pressure will force harder tradeoffs, unless one broadly capable model improves all tasks at once.
