Ethan Mollick shared a two-and-a-half-year-old screenshot captioned "Two and a half years from this." In it, Microsoft Copilot confidently answers that "strawberry" contains two letter R's—the wrong answer, and one of AI's most famous failure memes.
Mollick uses the old fail as a measuring stick: today's models have come a long way on character-level reasoning that used to trip up every frontier assistant.
