OpenAI claims three AI-driven breakthroughs: Yang–Mills proof, local smoothing conjecture, and QFT results
Dr_Singularity · x · 2026-10-27
OpenAI announced three potentially enormous AI-driven breakthroughs:
- Math: a proof of the local smoothing conjecture in every dimension, also resolving the Kakeya and Stein restriction conjectures
- Computer science: a disproof related to the Exponential Time Hypothesis (complexity theory)
- Physics: models produced a natural-language proof of Yang–Mills existence on Sept 9, 2026, followed by a QCD proof on Sept 18; release was postponed until Lean formalization of Yang–Mills completed on Oct 16, which led to a new collaboration
If validated, these would rank among the heaviest AI-for-Science results to date.
