Per CNBC, OpenAI is negotiating an additional $30B investment at a $1.25 trillion valuation — which would make it the most valuable private company ever:
- Backers: UAE investors are leading the round (they approached OpenAI last month), with US VC Coatue expected to participate; talks are advanced, with signing targeted within a week.
- Positioning: An 'opportunistic' bridge round ahead of an IPO — OpenAI confidentially filed its prospectus with the SEC in June.
- Context: In March OpenAI raised $122B at an $852B post-money valuation from Amazon, SoftBank and Nvidia; this round is far smaller.
