OpenAI Announces Three New Discoveries in Math, CS, and Physics

OpenAI announced three new discoveries spanning harmonic analysis, complexity theory, and quantum field theory:
- Math: results related to local smoothing and the Kakeya conjecture
- Computer science: a claim that the Exponential Time Hypothesis is false
- Physics: existence results concerning QCD and completions of the Standard Model
The company is also changing its release process: treating the manuscripts as "raw research data" and experimenting with external experts acting as shepherds who organize groups to understand and verify the results, with different release strategies per field — open AI output for math, a public output plus external collaborator group for CS, and deferring release decisions to an external group for physics.
