Web Search Neo exposes browser and search to agents via just two MCP tools
Distinct-Buddy-7758 · reddit · 2026-10-27
The author of open-source MCP server Web Search Neo explains a minimal-tool-surface design: agents see only webinfo (discovery/observation) and webaction (ordered action lists), with detailed schemas available on demand. Search needs no paid API key and falls back across engines. A demo flow: query capabilities, search and fetch text, open pages under a stable session ID, then pull a pageoutline exposing element roles, accessible names, states, and references—supplemented by screenshots, page text, console output, and network info. Requires Python 3.10–3.13 over stdio; Chrome only for rendered actions. The author asks whether small tool surfaces beat one named tool per operation.
