1,000+ mathematicians vow to shun AI papers as Lean formalization + AI predicted to solve open problems
DominiqueCAPaul · x · 2026-10-27
Over 1,000 mathematicians have joined the Association for Human Mathematics, pledging not to publish AI-generated math papers or work with frontier labs; 654 pledge to avoid AI in research entirely. In contrast, a widely shared prediction argues that within 2 years nearly all math results will be formalized in Lean and indexed, letting high-IQ AI solve many open problems in hours — with mathematicians becoming interpreters of what AI discovers, the biggest revolution since Gödel.
