Matt Levine mocks AI doom disclosures: 'Concerns have been raised' passive voice
joshgans · x · 2026-10-27
Bloomberg columnist Matt Levine jokes that if robots do kill everyone, he'll spend his last seconds annoyed at the passive voice in Anthropic-style risk disclosures: "Concerns have been raised … that sufficiently advanced AI systems could pose catastrophic or existential risks to humanity."
He then quotes Dario Amodei's essay — powerful AI "would have a fairly good shot at taking over the world," and stronger LLMs might create "a dangerous new type of organism" that could "destroy all life on earth" — punctuated with a dry "Concerns have been raised!" A classic takedown of doom-warning phrasing.
