Wayve CEO argues end-to-end deep learning should power driving, safety and world models

Wayve CEO Alex Kendall, speaking at the LongHorizon Embodied AI summit in San Francisco, argued that end-to-end deep learning is the best approach not only for driving models but also for safety, world and reward models. His slides framed three generations of autonomy: AV1.0 classical (safety via rules and redundancy), AV1.5 hybrid (rule-based checkers), and AV2.0 end-to-end AI, where "safety scales with the intelligence of the AI" — safety itself should be learned, not rules-based, in direct contrast to redundancy-first approaches.
