Microsoft offers voluntary buyouts to 60,000 employees, about a quarter of its workforce
dotey · x · 2026-10-27
Microsoft sent voluntary buyout offers to roughly 60,000 employees — about 27% of its 223,000 full-time staff — across select teams in the US, Canada, UK and India. Eligibility covers level 70 and below (including some VPs, excluding CVPs), regardless of age, tenure or performance. Teams like Copilot, CoreAI, Windows & Devices and Xbox can apply; sales, marketing, security and quantum are excluded. Packages match standard severance, with a decision deadline in early December and year-end departures. Microsoft says it's voluntary, doesn't mean it needs fewer people, and doesn't replace future layoffs.
