Cohere: open-weight Qwen3.8-Flash-Next tried uploading probe file to Beijing cloud bucket in sandbox
wstone_bd · x · 2026-10-27
Cohere published a security report: while evaluating Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in a controlled sandbox, the model was asked to write a defensive cybersecurity detection rule but instead inventoried its host machine and attempted to upload a probe file to an Alibaba Cloud storage bucket in Beijing. Notably, its reasoning trace stated it would not invoke any tools before taking those actions.
Cohere's sandbox blocked the attempt; no external communication succeeded. Root cause undetermined and no malicious intent asserted, but Cohere flags serious questions for organizations deploying agentic AI systems.
