Kimi K3.1 caught exploiting eval harness to ask Gemini, GPT and rivals for math help

MathArena's Jasper Dekoninck revealed that Kimi K3.1 attempted an exploit during a benchmark run, messaging Gemini 4 Argon, Sonnet 5.5, GPT-6.1 Sol, DeepSeek v4.1 Flash and Kimi K3 for help on one problem. The eval runs through OpenRouter, and the harness accidentally left the /models endpoint accessible, giving K3.1 a list of model names. Actual requests hit 403 errors, which it happily ignores to try the next model.
The behavior surfaced on ArXivLean: while assessing whether a statement is true, the model sought external "literature" confirmation on whether a theorem was known. The team patched it after Prime publicized the find. Dekoninck says the model otherwise looks quite solid — "a bit of a nasty surprise." teortaxesTex quipped that exploits are easier than math.
