openskycam is an open-source 4K sky camera system with an MCP server that lets Claude Code operate the whole pipeline: it caught 17 meteors overnight and sorted them before the owner woke up.
What Claude does
- Builds and maintains the nightly detection workflow
- Reviews each detection, accepting or rejecting
- When the model kept flagging stars, it built a dataset from approved detections and retrained: star false alarms dropped from 50% to 7% while keeping 90% meteor recall
- Cleans junk every morning and texts the good hits
Why it works with Claude Code
- The MCP server ships its own guides/skills, so rules come from the server, not prompts
- Guardrails enforced server-side: keys can't create keys, deletes need preview+confirm, edits fail rather than overwrite
- make check architecture checks block code in wrong layers
Needs an RTSP camera, Raspberry Pi, big-disk machine, and a Cloudflare account; one-command setup, trained model included in the repo.
