BofA sees 21M incremental CPUs by 2030 from agentic AI — analyst calls the math nonsense
AccBalanced · x · 2026-10-26
A BofA report estimates 1 billion agentic AI users would drive 2.7M incremental CPUs in 2026 and up to 21M by 2030, analogizing to ChatGPT's 1B+ MAU in four years to project 1-2B agentic users by 2030.
Reposter vikramskr agrees with the 2.7K CPUs per 1M users math (2 vCPUs/user, 25% utilization) but calls the 21M figure bogus: it assumes dedicated 8-16 vCPUs at 100% utilization per user, something cloud CPU deployments never do at billion-user scale. Attached charts show BofA's per-platform estimates (Intel Granite Rapids, AMD Turin, NVIDIA Vera, etc.) and an independent check across oversubscription ratios. Warning: this figure will be recirculated in other reports ad nauseum.
