Yacine: reverse engineering IS hacking — and 95% of LLM speedups come from it
yacineMTB · x · 2026-10-26
The thread started with @tszzl noting that OpenAI and Anthropic's blocks on using Codex for reverse engineering are mostly accidental decision boundaries, not explicit policy, and are being fixed.
Yacine MTB pushed back hard: there is literally no way to fix this — reverse engineering is hacking, and it accounts for roughly 95% of the speedup LLMs provide. His advice to labs: give up. A pointed debate on safety guardrails colliding with real developer workflows.
