CycleGRPO unifies region understanding and grounding via self-verified RL

- Researchers from NUS, UCAS, and NTU propose Generalized CycleGRPO, the first unified RL framework coupling region understanding and localization across spatial, temporal, and spatio-temporal domains.
- The cycle mechanism: the model generates candidate descriptions for a region, then localizes each description to reconstruct the input region; the overlap provides a geometrically verifiable reward for description quality, while per-trajectory rewards improve localization.
- A shared region representation with an overlap measure lets the same principle apply to image masks/boxes, video intervals, and timestamped spatial evidence—no external judge needed.
