Musk: Debt Markets Have Shut for AI Data Centers, 200+ Neoclouds Face Death Wave
sebkrier · x · 2026-10-26
Elon Musk says that over the past few weeks debt markets have almost entirely cut off access to capital for companies without substantial revenue independent of AI data centers. SpaceX just closed $40B in debt for GPUs — but it's investment grade with Starlink and launch revenue. He predicts guppy-level death and consolidation among the 200+ neoclouds; some will survive, but not many. The original tweet from investor jdpressman argued any investment thesis predicated on frontier AI not becoming a commodity seems imperiled, which Musk confirmed with "Pretty much."
