DeepSeek is having its Linux moment: open infrastructure as ecosystem strategy
TheTuringPost · x · 2026-10-26
The Turing Post argues DeepSeek is following a Linux-like open path: as Linux grew, companies like IBM helped develop it while profiting from surrounding products and services. Today DeepSeek builds DeepInfer (the software behind its inference service) on vLLM, and vLLM uses DeepSeek's code in return. Its open-source 3FS handles training data and KV caches, developers can run and adapt models like V4.1 Flash themselves, and tuning for Huawei's Ascend chips benefits both sides—Huawei gets more useful hardware, DeepSeek gains another platform. The piece asks why a company would share so much infrastructure that helps it compete, and where competition moves next (full analysis in its episode).
