GMO Internet Group CEO Masatoshi Kumagai warned in a blog post that hackers hijacked the company's cloud service and ran unauthorized FX trades on customer accounts across 70+ brokerages worldwide. He said the internet "is already starting to break down" and formally asked Japan's government to invoke the new active cyber defense law.- He blames AI: open-weight models are being freely combined into attack tooling, lowering the bar for large-scale hacking- ARTEX, GMO's own defensive AI pen-testing tool, was abused by attackers targeting 20 Japanese companies- He calls the moment an "AI cyber-saturation attack," where AI-generated attack volume overwhelms defenders. The Japan Times also covered the story.
