Hand-wiring a 74HC595 shift register goes hilariously wrong: LEDs act as proximity detector
alfcnz · x · 2026-10-26
AI educator alfcnz shared a hobby-electronics fail: while hand-playing with a 74HC595 serial-in/parallel-out shift register, his LED bank behaved completely unexpectedly — "It's not supposed to be a proximity detector!"
The attached images show a KiCad schematic (74HC595 with three push buttons wired to SER serial input, RCLK register clock and SRCLK shift clock, plus eight LEDs with 330Ω resistors) and a breadboard photo, so readers can debug his wiring themselves.
