AI film festival guide updated: judge films as films, publish criteria, clarify rights
lmoroney · x · 2026-10-26
Robert Gaudette's updated essay "On the Topic of AI Film Festivals" lays out 19 suggestions: thank organizers, but don't force theme requirements; judge films as films (story, writing, direction, editing, sound); publish judging criteria before submissions open; build juries mostly of working filmmakers; be clear about rights including AI training/data use; and limit audience votes to verified ticket holders so open online voting doesn't reward big followings. Filmmakers can use it as a checklist before paying entry fees.
